Ingredients
- 500g beef sausage meat
- 1 onion finely diced
- 1 tsp dried herbs
- ¾ cup breadcrumbs
- Pinch of salt & pepper
- 1 egg beaten
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- Optional:
- Sesame seeds, poppy seeds or herbs
Sausage Rolls
Method
- Preheat oven to 180c.
- Place the pastry sheets out to thaw.
- In a large bowl, add the sausage mince, onion, herbs, breadcrumbs and egg.
- Mix the ingredients together with a wooden spoon, making sure the mixture is well combined.
- Cut the pastry sheets in half.
- Divide the mince into four portions.
- Shape each portion into a log on the long side of the pastry rectangle.
- Brush the edges with water using a pastry brush.
- Roll the pastry over the log and press the edges together to seal, leaving the seam side down.
- Cut the sausage logs to four equal lengths, or cut in half if you want full size rolls.
- If you are looking to make bite size rolls for that special occassion, cut them into eight pieces making them ideal mini rolls.
- Make slits on the top of the rolls.
- Brush with the egg wash.
- Optional:
- You can sprinkle with sesame seeds, poppy seeds or herbs.
- Bake in the oven for 25 minutes or until they are a nice golden brown colour.
- You can freeze them for up to 3 months
